Hello, and welcome to JusticeforMe! Our mission is to bridge the “justice gap.” For too long, access to quality legal representation has been limited for those in the lower and middle class – especially for civil (not criminal) issues. We aim to change that with a unique solution that will help both the client and the attorney – providing affordable legal representation with the attorney of the client’s choice.
What is the Justice Gap?
Chief Justice Nathan L. Hecht of the Supreme Court of Texas, stated it best during his presentation to the 84th Texas Legislature:
“Access to justice is a struggle, not only for the poor, but for many in the middle class and small businesses who need the legal system but find the costs prohibitive and are forced to try to represent themselves. There are lawyers looking for work, and clients who need lawyers, but the cost of legal services keeps them apart. This has been called the “justice gap”, and it’s growing. Standard forms for use in court proceedings and for other purposes can help people represent themselves, and the Texas Supreme Court continues to work to provide them. But the best solution is personal legal assistance.”
Legal services have always been available to those with abundant resources as well as those that qualify for legal aid. Unfortunately, those in the middle have been left out. The middle class has a very strong demand for services, but is hampered financially by large initial retainers and requirements that invoices be paid within 30 days, as well as the difficulty of finding the right attorney that matches their needs; while on the supply side, there is a lack of utilization, because most attorneys must focus on upper class clients in order to avoid financial risk – particularly at the start of their careers. Ultimately, the “gap” is created by a lack of financial support on both sides of the market.
We at JusticeforMe aim to bridge this gap by helping clients avoid the large retainers that prevent access, lowering the ultimate cost of engagements, and providing a forum where clients can make informed decisions when selecting a legal partner. We also focus on removing the intimidation of the traditional legal market by promoting face-to-face interaction in a comfortable venue, flexible scheduling, and supporting the client each step of the way.
Similarly, JusticeforMe works to close the legal side of the gap by helping lawyers lower their overhead, reduce or eliminate credit risk, and solve their cash flow concerns.
By addressing both sides of the gap, JusticeforMe is uniquely positioned to bridge “the Justice Gap.”
We plan to launch in early 2018 – if you’re interested in learning more as we get closer to availability, simply enter your email below and we’ll keep you informed!
We at JusticeforMe passionately agree with Chief Justice Hecht that “Justice for only those who can afford it is neither justice for all nor justice at all.” And we have made it our mission to fix that.
