Food is Jesse’s singular passion. He founded J. Haskins Law, P.A. to focus on local food communities. Jesse knows the legal ingredients for food communities to thrive: compliance, risk management, and strategic planning. These issues were the crux of Jesse’s experience as an attorney for the State of Florida and the insurance industry.
Jesse served as assistant attorney general. In this capacity, he handled a range of civil litigation, from prisoners’ civil rights complaints to challenges about the adequacy of funding for Florida’s public universities. Jesse also served as assistant general counsel for the Florida Department of Financial Services. Jesse represented the Department of Financial Services in bankruptcy proceedings against Radioshack and a separate bankruptcy dispute with the insurance industry. Jesse also instituted workers’ compensation compliance actions against restaurants and defended the State’s investigation procedures relating to the use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Through his experience, Jesse knows regulatory traps, insurance pitfalls, and debt relief maneuvers.
Jesse serves as vice chair in the agricultural management section of the American Bar Association. Jesse is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Attorneys. He speaks and contributes articles to a variety of different forums, including the Florida Food Policy Council and Florida Organic Growers. Jesse graduated from the Duke University School of Law in 2009 and is admitted to practice law in Florida and North Carolina.
His favorite ingredient is tahini.
