Katie is an associate attorney with Sergi & Associates practicing civil and commercial litigation. She recently graduated with honors from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. Prior to joining the firm, Katie worked as a law clerk at Kent & Risley LLC, an intellectual property (IP) litigation boutique, where she drafted dispositive federal motions based on both substantive patent law as well as simply the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. While a law student, Katie worked with Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s Safe Families Office where she drafted petitions for temporary protective orders on behalf of survivors of domestic violence and their children. She also worked for Georgia Lawyers of the Arts as an extern where she connected low-income artists and inventors with IP attorneys in the Atlanta area. Before law school, Katie received her B.A. in Theatre & Dance from the University of Texas at Austin. As a practicing attorney, Katie enjoys applying her prior studies as an actor to enhance her current work as a litigator.
Since joining the firm, Katie has worked on matters ranging from defending a faculty member in a Title IX complaint, defending various fraternal organizations in wrongful death cases, and even second-chairing a criminal case in which the client was acquitted of three counts of indecency with a child. Katie has represented individual plaintiffs as well as a large corporate entity in their claims for defamation and misappropriation of trade secrets. As a new attorney, Katie is thrilled to join Sergi & Associates where she has already garnered significant hands-on experience representing clients over a wide range of legal issues in both state and federal court.
